When it comes to budgets, no "conservative" president in my lifetime has governed conservatively. A lot of the reason is almost religious devotion to the "tax cuts pay for themselves" philosophy, which to date has never worked. Ever.

Whatever the precise term, this is just Republican policy. They envision a society where a few reap all the benefits of society at everyone else's expense, while owing absolutely no responsibility at all to the very same society from which they benefit. While the opposite applies to the rest of us.

So the only investment the Trump bill makes is for DoD and DHS. It has to work, like it worked when I stopped working (revenues) and started spending on frivolous desires (tax cuts). I don’t think my kids (food, clothes) or house (roof collapsed) saw impacts.

Those so called cost savings are just delayed because worsening health outcomes will result in ER visits, medical debt, lower productivity, and more government outlay in the future.

It’s fiscally conservative in that it runs up the credit card bill for a Vegas vacation and quits working because it’s not important to collect revenue. Benefits will just trickle down from Heaven, because they just will.

Making America a country that no one would want to visit, live in, or immigrate to is one way to bring down immigration. Hard on those who already live here though. Make America a place no one wants to be.

I think matching up this graph with a graph of who is reaping the benefits of the tax cuts will provide the biggest clue as to what the budget bill should be called, in addition to “cruel”.

Medicaid 'work requirements' as meaningless and pointlessly destructive though they may be, are very popular among the MAGA base. Working a job they hate is fundamental to their identity and sense of entitlement. They want people forced to work a stupid job wherever possible.

It seems like a plan made without regard to anything fiscal or political. More like self-serving to a very select few. I still have no clear picture of the Utopian vision this represents. After all, isn’t that what everyone strives toward? Maybe it’s entirely sociopathic?
