A week into my zettelkasten experiment, I can tell that my perfectionism got the best of me--the biggest help was recognizing that fleeting notes are your friends. I wanted to make any note a main note right away. This was too much like trying to write and edit at the same time.

Once I abandoned the need to have everything in its right place and linked from the jump, it was much easier to just take notes now, sort and relate them later. It's a multi-step process.

The desire to edit while writing really sucks. It slows me down a lot since I want to make sure it looks good, but editing can actually be a lot more valuable if I wait for myself to spew all of my ideas out somewhere.

When I do this I can assess the logical flow of information at a larger scale than I would otherwise, and it makes it easier to group related ideas better. Then I can do other editing to polish up the text.
