I haven't met my new neighbor yet, but her dogs love me...

The first time I visited a friend in NYC, I commented on how friendly New Yorkers are. She responded: they just want to know your business.

I smell like dogs and dog treats. My car smells like dogs and dog treats. They all come to me, or the car. Leashed dogs will pull humans to the car, or me. Every day. I love it. My dogs say that I cheat on them.

My Dr neighbors dogs would end up on my backporch wanting to play with my dog & get treats. He was my dads Dr during hospice. They had many talks about the many many dogs I brought home and became family dogs.

Actually dogs typically love leash walks and interacting with their owners. They are not yard ornaments. Of course in some areas, those who are left unattended are being stolen right out of yards - and sold for drug money. Or worse.

He’s a beauty! Amazing what genetics can do. I don’t think I really see any of those breeds. I have experienced a Great Dane and a Great Dane cross. They were both very loyal and loved their kids.

He didn’t look like anything the foster folks claimed he was, which didn’t bother us, but we did the DNA test for fun and because we wanted to find out about his partner in crime who we had rescue/adopted ten years before…the ShitWowWow!

He’s an adopt-a-mutt. A very special breed! He actually has about four different breeds in his genes; American Bull Dog, Doberman, some kind of terrier and a tiny bit of Great Dane. We tested his DNA just for laughs! He’s super smart and totally devoted to the grand kids.

I popped ‘round to my new neighbour to introduce myself, with my husky in tow, because I thought it fair to show him that we came as a package-deal. My husky figured out he wasn’t a dog person before I did 😶. The neighbour put up a solid 6.5ft fence between us shortly after.

There were very few people he didn’t at least attempt to get on with. In fact, I think he tried every day to win the neighbour over until the fence went up. Dogs on the other hand… he knew which ones to avoid there. They never have treats on them for a start.

Moral of the story: You’re sometimes better off not making friends with your neighbour. Tho how you’re supposed to work out in advance which neighbours to not make friends with, I couldn’t tell you.

I met the neighbors but they didn't know that I had also met their dog. I would come home from work and let my dogs out into the back yard. Then I would walk down there and talk to their dog. I would hug and kiss her. Years later they told me she didn't like too many people. Miss you Lilly.❤️
