> sick of the robots on the street sharing our space, we didnt consent to that brother you have consent completely fucked up, you cannot consent on behalf of the street dawg

"we didn't consent to" is a 99.9% efficient indicator of an absolute dogshit perspective inbound, just full disconnect from reality, because imagining communal consent to the actions of others requires this

What on earth are you talking about? Nobody asked for Google to spy on its users so egregiously that legislation had to be drawn up to get them to seek “permission”, which they then strongarmed publishers into gaining via cookie banners. *Obviously* some PM asked for that… but so what?!

igi, because often there is an underlying user-ask. google spying lubricates all sorts of "the computer should just know" features that people like-to-claim-to-hate-while-using-them but i think more clearly "no one asked" papers over thinking about why a PM thought this was smart

if you mentally delete "no one asked for this" from one's polemic toolbox and replace it with "why would this ever happen" the latter basically always has an answer that if internalized makes your protest more effective. "why did google spy on us?" - to make ads """better""". that leads to more whys

I don’t think disallowing the assertion that a behaviour is unwanted is effective either: one can simultaneously deny that consent was given and ask what would motivate the actor

conceptually? but in practice the correlations are pretty consistent. even you here, afaict you don't actually make a habit of 'no one asked for this' posting; your view of nuance seems to generally preclude that maybe i'm oversimplifying what would help others, idk

doesn't matter for me ig because generally i can't get "no one asked for this" posters to consider other perspectives lmao
