I know how this will affect the mainline workers, dealerships & office staff but what I really want to know is how will the CEOs & board members adapt? Will this truly hurt the company as a whole or will it just facilitate some sweet buybacks in the near future. Has GM done the "Chapter 11 Shuffle"?

The American auto manufacturer’s net income fell by 35%, the company said in its second quarter earnings call; because they're all make really cheap, rotten cars.

HOW this country, a large portion of it, STILL believes other countries pay the tariffs explains why we are in the mess we’re in. I’m guessing, once the trolls on Fox News manage to “take back” nazi, they can explain how being a member of a cult is a good thing!

I find it hilarious that Japan has 15% but American manufacturers have 25% because of Mexico and Canada supply chains. And if they drop the chains, their cars will cost even more. And who is going to buy American cars? I suspect that they will be shunned.🤔

My husband is pestering me to replace my 2006 Avalon. (2008 thousand miles) I have to limp it along until these monsters are out of office. I refuse to make any big purchases and am only spending on the bare essentials. It surprising how much you don’t need🤔

They have helped. Many manufacturers were short-staffed with too much work to be done. They no longer have the need to hire since demand for their higher priced goods has fallen off a cliff. Now, they can lay people off instead.

They sold out to wall street and stopped letting good engineers building great products for its customers. Their own greed and hubris are destroying them. There are lessons here. First how could a software guy with zero experience in building cars build Tesla and where was GM when this was happening

Only the start. The trickle down on tariffs will affect many industries. All input material tax, direct like the copper tax, or indirect by general tariff, will decrease manufacturing output and increase prices. unemployment early next year Inflation is coming and will hit double digits by March 26.

We're snow birds, have a new car in Florida. Have decided to keep the 2014 Honda in New Hampshire, rather than a new one, which we had planned on. The same car we bought, Sept.2024, is up 3 grand less than a year later....

Consumers are at a disadvantage. We can either purchase a new car and incur the tariff tax on top of the retail sales price, or we can keep spending on repairs for the old vehicle, which could end up being equally expensive since some parts also have a tariff tax.

Why is this surprising ? The Auto industry is totally integrated between Mexico, Canada and the US , Tariffs on much of those parts plus some partial tariffs on Autos made in Can/Mexico PLUS 50 % tariffs on Steel and aluminum will cost someone . Mostly those costs will be passed on to the consumer.

Bullshit. The tariffs didn't cost the auto makers a fucking cent. WE PAID THE TAXES. THE CONSUMER. When was the last time a corporation absorbed extra costs on goods, services, or production? Your headline is a FUCKING LIE.

It seems that Americans and others in the world are just not that into muscle cars and monster trucks this Trump administration around. And the public is not being fooled or impressed by Trump's attacks on renewable & clean energy in order to make oilmen richer.

But trump is a financial “jeenyus” the other countries pay the tarrifs, they’re like taxes, you know. Corporations fucked around and now they’re finding out. What do these people think we’re going to pay for their products with after all is said and done? Trump is taking everyone down with him.

So why are they not speaking out about tariffs? They are not good for anybody other than the felon using them as talking points. He does not care about the US, he cares about himself only. Make America Great Again - get rid of the felon.

It will take many, many years (30 or more) to repair the damage that Trump has done. While internal repair may be quicker, repairing the USA's relationship with the rest of the world will be long, slow & arduous.

Similar to how the world felt about Germany (after WWII). Calling someone a nazi was an insult & no one trusted Germans or their country. It took a long time before that attitude changed & Germany had to do a lot to show they'd changed.

So this is why no other President in our history thought trade wars were a good idea. Leave it to Trump to find a way to destroy a perfectly good economy while making millions suffer. Not surprising, though, it takes a special kind of dipshit to bankrupt a casino when the house always wins.

Trump really threw a monkey wrench in GM! Lost a billion dollars! You put an idiot in charge as President this is what happens. He doesn't understand that the whole world is interconnected now.

What’s the big deal? Americans are ok with this. American companies, law firms, universities, institutions will in fact pre-pay bribes and bend their knees to the dictator. Then get effed over. And will still say thank you. Truly the Captain America they like to portray themselves to be.

Wasn't the 34-ct felon, rapist, and pedophile (along with his cronies and sycophants in congress and the supreme court), purchased by the corporations and billionaires? You installed this tyrant and paid big bucks for him. Don't whine when you suffer the consequences of your actions.

Trump is killing our US auto industries. Vote EVERY Republican out in the US House & ever Republican US Senator OUT 2026. We need a tsunami of voting so great the can’t cheat. Never again will we accept all swing states going Republican, not in this divided country.

To be fair he is working on his next bankruptcy. This one will be the biggest, the best bankruptcy of them all. People will go to Trump & with tears in their eyes thank him for bankrupting them.
