Ehh, not my favorite update for mobile app on an iPhone mini. I have to long tap or click in the email to pin emails now and I preferred the visible checkboxes instead of the avatar. Functionally avatars do nothing but the checkboxes save a click

Hey, I like the look. I don't like the fact that I've accidentally archived or deleted several emails since it rolled out on desktop. Is there a way I'm missing to get rid of the hover buttons? If not, could there be a way?

You can turn it off. In the options displayed under the little settings icon in the top-left corner of the inbox there is an option for that.
