It's just wild to me that Merkel is a top candidate, given that her entire tenure as chancelor was marked by pathetic weakness towards Putin and Russia that enabled the war in Ukraine in the first place.

You arent that familiar with EU, i see. Dignity is not part of EU mondus operandi (or whatever it was). They simply cant live without their love for russia.

I think you're letting the headline's spin color your judgement. The take-away could just as well be "EU is done with being talked over and ignored by Trump when it comes to dealing with Putin." Having a seat at the table matters.

I heard Merkel already said "no". Draghi is just non-entity for putin, I don't know why EU even considers him.
