I think it is beautiful to imagine that the Whore of Babylon could have been originally inspired by a specific person. Can you imagine fucking so many people that you spook Christians for 2000+ years? Absolute Legend.

I think it's meant as "the whole nation of Babylon is a whore", rather than "a whore from Babylon". The Jews were really pissed at Babylon for conquering and subjugating "God's chosen people", and the term just stuck.

Not sure I agree. A large portion of early Christian converts were Roman, and didn't hold the same national identity as the Jews. Don't get me wrong, "Revelations" is 110% directed at demonizing Nero. But their "Holy Roman Empire" is a sure sign later Christians treasured their Roman identity.

They treasured their Roman Identity, but I think they were also deeply at odds with the Roman Empire as it exists before Constantine. The "Holy Roman Empire" was a completely different beast that existed centuries later. That said, it's also true the early church bickered over *everything.*
