UnitedHealthcare Group had a profit of $32.36 billion last year by the way. Profit. For context the budget of the government of Bulgaria was $32.47 billion. Some have estimated that you could end world hunger for around $25 billion a year.

According to an estimate shared by Oxfam, around $23 billion is needed to fight extreme hunger. To fight chronic hunger, another $14 billion is required. UN FAO’s zero hunger goal is established at $267B annually but that’s a much more ambitious and broad plan.

It's like for a year, but considering the company makes over that every year... It doesn't seem like much because most of the world doesn't need much for the cost of food. The USA is comically behind on transit which makes up 70% of the cost of most foods.

I thought that cargo via rail is actually extremely efficient, cost-wise? And the US has fairly robust infrastructure there? And i thought that is something like 90% of how things are transported intra-country (the rest being mostly road- and air-based long-haul and last-leg delivery)?

It is very efficient cost wise. I find it hard to believe we could be leading as the most efficient rail while serving less people and still having more derailments than all the other countries combined a year.

That's a common defense of the rich to distract attention away from themselves. But it relies on people not even grasping their insane amount of wealth. As of 2018, the top 1% globally individually had 870,000$ net worth. I can not seem to find more recent data, but i hear it's worse
