Performance aside, Ohtani's contract made sense because he brought a dedicated fan base of 125mil people with him to the Dodgers. Soto doesn't have that. His performance will merit his yearly salary for now but will this be the case in 10 years? Insanely risky deal imo.

He signed for 5 million more than what the Yankees offered him. He got more years with the Mets offer. Still if he took that little bit more fu$% him. But the Yankees better star re evaluating themselves. Until they reinvent how they spend money the Mets and Dodgers are gonna laugh at them.

IMO, the weakness in the example. I wouldn’t say Soto is in top 2, maybe even not top 3. He’s been on 2 stacked teams but this is first time where he is THE star. So this is his chance to show he really is the one.

$765 million. And in the United States, Soto will pay the same taxes that someone making $600,001 dollars a year pays. Donald Trump said that JFK's presidency was the last time America was great, and the highest marginal tax back then was 91%, and had been for 20 years. Tax the rich.

Soto will pay the same rate (37%) on every dollar over $600k as someone who makes $601k a year, and he’ll make $51 million a year. Trump said the last time America was “great” was when JFK was president. The highest marginal tax back than was 91%, not 37%. Tax the rich.
