I am referring to him saying here on Bluesky that it was just wishful thinking based on misinterpreted data. That to me is a debunkment even if not an article on Bellingcat’s site.

It’s absolutely bizarre how quickly people spread this with zero backup; just an invited screenshot of a graph that confirms their suspicions; and when people try to inject some credulity they flip out. Inhave so little faith in humanity in the face of disinformation.

I think people confused “YandexBot” which is their search-engine web crawler and the generic idea of a ‘bot account.’ It does make sense that crawlers were shut down, they’re likely the lowest-priority workloads on Yandex’s job scheduler. It’s the first thing you turn off when you lose capacity.
