"Flock cameras are just one part of a vast ecosystem," @lastweektonight.com's John Oliver warned his audience last night. "Check out resources like the EFF's Atlas of Surveillance, which catalogs each of the technologies used in your area." www.atlasofsurveillance.org/

Might have missed it on the atlas, are there any resources to help citizens express their concerns about Flock, Shotspotter, etc. to their local representatives?

We're working on a reusable playbook for organizers! Stay tuned for updates on that. In the meantime, here are concrete resources you can use, even if we can’t plug into campaigns more directly right now 🧵

Map what’s happening locally: Use the Atlas of Surveillance to document existing ALPR deployments, vendors, and related tech. Get grounded on ALPR harms + legal issues: This explainer breaks down how these systems work, key privacy concerns, and legal hooks you can raise with lawmakers + allies.

Learn from recent local wins: Communities have successfully blocked, rolled back, or constrained ALPR deployments; this 2025 retrospective walks through examples and tactics you can borrow. www.eff.org/deeplinks/20...

Learn from EFF’s Flock Safety investigations: a summary of EFF’s investigations into Flock’s surveillance abuses and patterns of harm, useful for framing local fights and media. www.eff.org/deeplinks/20....

Plug into rural + small‑town organizing support: If you’re in a rural or small‑city context, Rural Privacy Network may have relevant tools or connections. ruralprivacy.org
