we just finished kanto (finally) so we went back and picked up banned pokémon episode 4: holiday hi-jynx this episode establishes that santa claus is real and canon in the pokémon universe and a single rapidash pulls his sleigh. also lapras are telepathic. until orange islands when they're not

allegedly the next banned episode (and original next episode), holiday hi-jynx, was shuffled in the order (due to the show going on hiatus after porygon) and still exists dubbed with jynx repainted purple, although i don't know where exactly

absolutely baffling stuff. apparently this originally aired in japan in early october, though i guess it would've been slated for the previous year's dec 23 (a week after electric soldier porygon) and then uhh some stuff happened

indescribably tragic that dropping this episode removes santa claus from the american pokémon canon anyway santa has an army of jynx instead of elves, and i can safely say that the optics of having them doing unpaid labor are, um, worse

i was always under the impression that jynx was inspired by ganguro, but i guess we don't actually know for sure? but i would like to think this was a wildly unfortunate cultural coincidence

i can't stop thinking about team rocket tying up santa and stealing all the toys. fairly oddparents ass episode

oh i guess it is helpful to mention, for those not aware, that this episode was pulled because the original jynx design bore an unfortunate resemblance to blackface. whoops

oh right, ash's pokédex emphasized that lapras can understand human speech, as if that were a distinctive capability. but uh the entire show is people talking to pokémon all the time?? trainers give complex commands?? they can very clearly understand humans what are you talking about
