"get the app to keep using reddit!" i am not going to do that and it is frankly insane that you are even asking, let alone trying to force me into it. you are a fucking website

every fucking website now is basically "install bonzai buddy directly into your pocket for the best experience!" and i can't believe we put up with it

installing a custom program to read 1 website on your real computer would seem utterly deranged but it's normal for your worse smaller computer

uhhh en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electro...

en.wikipedia.orgElectron (software framework) - Wikipedia

that is generally to allow it to do things that web browsers do not allow a website to do (for good reason) and i don't know of any website that makes it mandatory

I've seen some "apps" that are just Electron and they behave exactly like the website under any browser, except for trivial stuff like running at boot.

Dedicated apps let them push ads and collect usage data that a competent browser wouldn't allow, when they say "for the best experience" they mean for them not you

What we need is a superapp that lets you access all the apps in one place easily Oh wait, that's called a browser with bookmarks!

I think this fails Hanlon's razor. They're just trying to circumvent adblockers (and in Reddit's case possibly to drive down the rate of people using the old, good website layout so they have an excuse to retire it).

most people on phones don't have functional ad blocking! that's mostly on desktop
