Mixam adding what is essentially a NSFW Censorship Fee to printing costs is appalling. I don't think this is something that @cbldf.bsky.social can take Mixam to court over, but it is a huge issue for anyone in publishing or self-publishing. Shame on Mixam for doing this.

really incredibly funny how Mixam's new "inappropriate content levels" feature is essentially just... three totally perfunctory levels and then a fourth that slaps a thick-ass upcharge on ALL pornography. Okay

Something worth note with Mixam is that they're a bridge between customers (creators) and printer businesses. What may be happening is printers who have contracts with Mixam are exploiting NSFW books by raising their prices on that material instead of turning down the work, making Mixam vet it.

I've definitely have heard about works that are not for kids with heavier theme be denied by printer businesses, typically by family owned businesses who have a moral objection to the work. Similar situations happen with countries that would object to certain characterizations.

Mixam could work with printer businesses who don't have issues with NSFW material or exploit the material for profit. That said, I imagine it's not easy for a business like theirs to easily find printers who don't just want the direct business. Either way, higher costs on creators isn't good.
