This appears to be a move to funnel everyone through privatized Navigation Centres, where the ministry has spent nearly 3 years centralizing personal information of the people who will be the first targets of involuntary abstinence detainments set to begin in 2027.

From the DM’s… Recovery Alberta previously had a program to help people navigating recovery get ID. According to this, that program has now been ended. Because why make it easier for folks trying to get sober? #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

When I say “Navigation Centres are privatized,” I mean there is a company posted at the entrance recruiting people to private rehabs, including the one it runs. That company has received $72 million in AB provincial funding and its ownership is personally connected to the premier’s former CoS.

I’d bet it might also be that some lobbyist for the private registrars complained that they were being “denied business”. Similar to the group of vets in MB that complained the SPCA doing affordable spay & neuter for clients who could never afford a private surgery were denying them profits.
