Are they "confused" or are they neo-puritans who can't handle an overtly queer story that's been around since 1989

Hottest take: Standalone Complex was way more perverted, and in a skeevy way, partly because it pretends not to be leering at a very dehumanized Kusanagi. No, what bothers creeps about the new show isn't the "horniness," it's a woman with agency and the existence of female orgasms.

The OG Ghost in the Shell manga isn't "raunchy," it's an action sci-fi series made for adults that treats sex as a normal thing adults do. It has, at most, 1-2 sex scenes over the entire series but because they're queer and about a woman just having a Normal Time of her own volition, it's a Problem

thinking for no reason about how i couldn't get through reading Dragon Ball/Z because it was so thick with Sexual Harassment Humor at every turn but we all gotta freak out over one consensual lesbian threesome (this is not to say that DB is wholly terrible, i just like. personally couldn't deal)

The fact that they virtually never talk about things like the persistent sexual harassment (often targeted at MINORS) in "classic" shonen that's aimed at children shows exactly where these fucks stand.

Hot take: an adult woman having consensual sex with adult women in a comic that's made for adults requires zero moral scrutiny, while normalizing rape culture in media for children is actually something worth talking about???

yeah like. i'm very on the side of "fiction is fiction" but that's the kind of insidious shit that actually can reinforce unexamined bias!! some of the most popular shonen manga has SO MUCH gross skirt flipping, boob grabbing "comedy" garbage

people will tut-tut about Berserk being full of overt sexual violence when like. okay yeah, but it's portraying it 50000% more sensitively and thoughtfully than any given shonen thing with Panty Stealing Grandpa and Skirt Flipping Cool Guy. the bar is on the floor here but it has NARRATIVE WEIGHT
