For the past few months, I've been almost exclusively running everything in my life on Linux. Claude has been a massive unlock in helping me customize it and diagnose emerging issues quickly, and it doesn't feel as bad as it was even just a few years back. And surprisingly, it... just works?

Especially after the recent “agents overly eager” events, I had no problem in giving my Claude a root shell inside tttt and have it diagnoze and configure a couple of quirks after a new server install. It is incredible how smooth it works !

I've honestly been telling people that they are now effectively a linux expert but don't know it. well, LLM with terminal access is anyway. No reason to not have a linux desktop working exactly as you want without needing to have a linux-ie person like me around (thank god)

yup I've even gotten old UI (MATE/GNOME2) to have creature comforts of modern interface design just by pointing an agent in that direction with a couple sentences a buncha times bsky.app/profile/snep...

administration of a Linux system is done by editing text files, since pretty much all settings of the system are a defined in some text file. this quirk has, by accident, turned into a UX superpower in the age of text-based AIs, which will fix your problem... by asking it to do so.
