We should all be scared that the administration wants to break the right to the veil of an anonymous vote. This is so they can punish and threaten people that didn't vote for them. At one time your employer could send thugs with you to vote who would ensure your compliance.

Voting looks simple to the average voter, but there are lots of behind-the-scenes complexities to keep it fair and honest. Making it impossible (in theory) to connect a particular voter to his/her vote is one of those safeguards.

In this case, I believe the rule is from 1984.

It still feels so weird to have a Dept of Justice, the highest law enforcement agency in the land, that doesn't give a shit about the law. Just not at all. What's legal, what's illegal, they don't care. The US DOJ folks. This is where we're at.

This is Don*ld. He loves to sue. He has choked the New York courts with meritless lawsuits for years. And there is a segment of the legal world that has no shame, and obliges him. It's his favorite form of bullying.

Once a ballot leaves the envelope it can’t be traced back to a voter. That's the entire point of a 'secret' ballot.

The DOJ by direction of the President is planting a multitude of options like a squirrel burying acorns. Like those acorns in the ground most of the DOJ cases will go nowhere and rot away. Some though will take root and branch in many directions. California, Alaska… Unknown where we are heading.
