Todd Blanche was a stand-up SDNY prosecutor. Now he's defending baseless charges against Trump's enemies. Harry Litman tells Marc Elias what he thinks changed.

I think nothing has changed for Blanche. The difference is who he was working for. Also, we don't know what corrupt things he did as a prosecutor. For all we know he could have been just as corrupt as he is now, but his crimes have not been exposed.

Todd Blanche knows the law yes. But don't Criminal Defense Attornies just put the Law itself on Trial? That looks like what he's doing, to be the best escape artist.

When powerful people do things out of character for an unknown reason, my money is on kompromat. Maybe it started with money or ambition, but when it gets blatant, it’s pressure.

Todd Blanche, unlike Trump, isn't dimwitted. The only way his Faustian bargain makes sense is if he, and his circle, are counting on the regime to prevent democracy from happening, and stay in power forever.

"Where is my Roy Cohn" Trump asked during a White House meeting during his first term. Todd Blanche has become the Roy Cohn that Trump was asking for during his first administration.

Unless his family is being held hostage by armed Trump gunman, there is no excuse for Blanche’s behaviour. A person doesn’t just start being a criminal in his late 40’s. He’s always been a criminal.

Manny people seem like they are decent until they think they can behave badly or criminally and they will be free of consequences. History is littered with examples of people acting horribly and doing awful things when they feel like they will get away with it.

Love Harry Litman. Love you too, Marc. It’s gotta be the lifetime appt he’s after. If it’s just the title of AG, he could kiss his ambition goodbye when Trump’s time is up. His name will be trash.

I wonder though, whether now that his former colleagues at DOJ see what he is capable of, they have questions about how Blanche may have conducted himself as U.S. atty, and how innocent ppl may have been unfairly prosecuted by this so-called “stand-up SDNY prosecutor.”

After Blanche left SDNY his clients were mostly mobster types. Then he confirmed that by taking Trump on as client. For his own benefit. He played the schlump during that trial all to become AG. He’s a bad guy not a good guy. Maybe he always was.
