So much for him being the best huh? We know damn well there will be no refiling of charges. I guess everybody in Washington is looking out for their best interest, trying to cover their own ass? I am really disappointed and angry. He should have been locked up! He won't be president until January.

Allowing Trump to get away with it is the ultimate moral hazard. Future lawbreakers now see, very publicly, that our legal system is just a game rigged for the rich and powerful. What a horrible precedent to set. #thedon

You people are delusional. These cases will never again see the light of day. And the one case in which he was convicted will also be dropped and the conviction reversed. Why? Because every last person involved is a sniveling coward. Crime does indeed pay. He got away with it.

IMHO, it’s primarily the misinformation engine that has fed them for the last 8 years. Fox, elected Republicans and the complicit mainstream media have filled their heads and hearts with poison. THEY, however, are responsible for choosing those news and information sources.

right. does the statute of limitations even matter when he can just make it all go away? which is why I think Biden should just lock trump up right now for being a national security threat. in part because he still has stolen top secret intel. keep him in jail pending his trials.

There’s more to this action than meets the eye. The other two defendants will be prosecuted for their actions in the MAL documents case. That would lead back to Trump. This keeps the case alive. I’m not a lawyer, but I have to believe this isn’t over.

I’m not American but your politics affect the rest of the world and it’s a worry how this is playing out. Had he been indicted as per the charges presumably he couldn’t have run for President? I watched Jan 6th as it happened and can’t believe he was allowed to run again, never mind get elected.

The explanation is simple: the US Supreme Court is packed with ideologues who flout precedent and fabricate legal theories that effectively repeal laws. All of which is beyond their authority. The solution is impeachment, but it requires a Senate majority of 60. bsky.app/profile/cats...

Merrick Garland blew it. I feel like he must be a coward. If he acted as soon as Biden took office, we would not be living through this nightmare. It’s not Jack Smith’s fault.

I can’t understand why this OLC rule wasn’t reviewed over the last four years knowing that Agent Orange was running to keep himself out of jail. He has no interest in governing as president.

As the motion reads, "It has long been the position of the Department of Justice that the United States Constitution forbids the federal indictment and subsequent criminal prosecution of a sitting President." Thus, they're asking for the charges to be dismissed before Trump's inauguration.

So much for the principle that no person is above the law. I question the notion that a sitting President can't face prosecution and don't accept the policy position of OLC. How does the electorate get to override the legal system?

Is this just the only play left? Dismiss now and hope to charge again when he’s not in office and can abuse his power to escape. It sucks but it makes sense. The evidence isn’t going anywhere.

We have to keep the faith - Smith knows what he's doing. And don't forget, Dumpy Don committed lots of crimes while in office the last time. He will commit more. Focus on getting back control of the House & Senate and possibilities for getting him post his presidency improve. That will be my focus!

Most people will be angry at this, as am I in the short run. But Smith, who I think wanted Dumpy Don as much or more than anyone, has very cannily sent all the files to the judge. They will await the reopening of the case, once he's no longer Pres. So actually a better move than it seems.
