Scryfall is redefining what a card being "full-art" means in search, and adding a new term: Translucent. Since the introduction of the is:default and is:atypical designations, one issue has surfaced from their definitions: cards with translucent frames (Eldrazis) were not showing up as "default". 🧵

This was because we were including Eldrazi cards and other colorless-frame cards in our definition of "full art", which is a disqualifying tag for defaultness. To amend this, we introduced a new print tag back in April: "translucent". We've been slowly populating it since then until last month.

❔What is translucent? ❔ "is:translucent" includes any card where a major part of the frame, normally the text box, is see-through but not fully transparent. This englobes colorless cards, run-of-the-mill borderless treatments, and most planeswalkers, among others.

A card being translucent is not indicative of the card being atypical; your day-to-day Eldrazi will now correctly appear when you look for normal-looking cards. Similarly, a card may be translucent and also be atypical (because it's a promo, because it's borderless, etc.)

Some notable exclusions from is:translucent are Japan Showcase and Source Material cards; cards like these straight up don't have a text box. Nothing here is translucid or translucent.

So, what is "full art" now? 🎨 We've downsized our definition of is:fullart down to cards whose artwork truly encompasses the totality of the card, or for which the artwork overtakes the text box in some way, or for which translucent can't really apply and we can't really call it anything else.

A lot of cards that used to be under is:fullart will now instead appear under is:translucent. You may have to change how you search certain treatments or promo styles. But most importantly, Emmy is finally back to being totally normal :)
