Beautiful performances and writing. This exact scene is what we’d aim for in the Everybody Loves Raymond writers room. A small slight or comment or observation that could represent an entire relationship. Didn’t always hit the mark, but it gave us something perfect to aim for!

I remember seeing this as a small child and for a long time after tried to decide if Michael’s or Archie’s way was better. I do a sock n a sock bc my shoes stay at the front door where they belong!

I’ve thought about this scene thousands of times since I was 11 years old watching with my grandparents in their den. It was the perfect thought experiment for my young mind. You were a good human, Rob Reiner.

Yup. That’s quoted in my house after almost any mention of socks, up there with Edith’s cling “peaches … in heavy syrup” or Archie’s Rev Felcher, Fletcher, whatever” and other classics.

In our family, my Dad was Archie and I was the Meathead. But we came together to laugh at this program equally. It was good for us and all of America. Many thanks to both Carl and Rob. May both Reiners rest in peace.

I just thought about this scene yesterday when I was putting on my socks and shoes- sock, sock, shoe, shoe- and deciding whether I should do sock, shoe, sock, shoe.

Meathead was right about it (and most other things compared to Archie). Most American households have dogs and/or cats (though the Bunkers didn’t). Putting a shoe on immediately after a sock prevents pet hair from getting in there. Plus, hopping on one leg in the unlikely event of fire.

Oh the sock and the shoe!!! I still think of this occasionally when I’m putting my socks and shoes on, I truly think of this episode and hopping on one foot trying to get out of the house. Thank you for posting this! 🥰🤣🥰🤣🥰🤣
