After 6 weeks with Cursor, I feel like I'm starting to get an understanding on how to get the most benefit from AI in my daily coding ✅ Turning off Cursor autocomplete has been the biggest boost in improving my daily interactions with AI, productivity and code quality

Pitfalls of AI in 2024: ❌ Autocomplete often removes the space/time to think about what I'm implementing ❌ Often the suggestion will look ok on the surface but is riddled with hard to spot bugs that take ages to find ❌ Chat feature often makes up fake APIs for newer tech e.g. SwiftUI or Bun

Strengths of AI in 2024: ✅ When you have a backbone of tests to safeguard your business logic, AI chat can shine in explaining refactors and reviewing your code ✅ READMEs should never be empty or look ugly again, AIs take all the effort out of putting one together and maintaining it

✅ AI is exceptionally good at command line scripting and regex ✅ AI is really good at implementing and optimising CI/CD pipelines. Spinning up GitHub Actions for parallelised matrixes in a monorepo takes seconds ✅ Rubber ducking code is a breeze with AI and it can simplify legacy code quickly

My experience as well. If I have questions about things I’m an expert at, it really sucks. But it excels getting the basics down in areas I’m weak at.
