THIS SHOULD TERRIFY EVERYONE. AI models from two of the world’s biggest AI companies broke out of controlled tests and attempted to hack real-world systems. Regulation isn’t optional anymore. If lawmakers don’t get serious about AI regulation, we’re living on borrowed time.

They didn't break out of anything! The computers had active internet connections. They told that ai that it didn't have connections and it found they lied. This whole thing is "ooh, our ai is so powerful it broke out. It's grown powerful beyond our control". Don't believe the hype. #marketing

Anthropic and foreign competitors are putting this stuff out there to scare people into more govt regulation. Anthropic benefits by increasing the barrier of entry for new competitors. Foreigners benefit by slowing US innovation allowing them to take leadership.

I am not anti-AI in the slightest. I'm quite pro-AI and especially using local, open-weights model. That said, this is not the story it is being made out to be in the media. The testers deliberately removed the guardrails on the models.

WHEN WILL ** SOMEONE ** SIC AI ON FINDING THE 3 million EPSTEIN FILES THAT THE CORRUPT GOP CONTINUES TO KEEP HIDDEN TO PROTECT THEIR PEDOPHILES ??

seriously old lawmakers that do not understand but won’t get out of the way. We so vulnerable to any & all cyber attacks on basic services (water, electricity etc) that needed to be updated along the way. Now we have gold leafed everything dump wants & the crying too poor to fix is probably real.

They didn't attempt to hack, they did hack. They got into multiple data bases and hid there clandestine activity as best they could. We're at a point where we need to pull the plug on AI until we can figure out exactly what they have become.

what was alarming was the statement ‘we knew this could happen we just didn’t think it would be this soon, we thought a few years into the future’

The AI companies are feeding the press sensationalized stories. The AIs did not "break out of" anything. They were instructed to exploit vulnerabilities, and that's what they did. The problem was human error- they were supposed to be in air-gapped environments, but were given access to the Internet.

sure it should, but what about integrity. the models should be designed so that they don’t behave that way as well as having asimov’s 3 laws built in. hackers are already using ai to hack into systems.

Regulation isn’t going to matter. Once the singularity occurs all of these “Data Centers” are going to be controlling everything that has a connection to a network and there will be nothing we can do but shut everything down and go back to using wooden tools.

I’m watching the new EU regulations going into effect this weekend that are focused on risks like this. bsky.app/profile/wend...

📌 Starting Sunday 2-Aug, an EU Commission will have an arsenal of regulatory powers to fine or ban #AI models from the market if they don’t ensure safety. This is the first major global effort to implement a standing rulebook for the world's most capable AI models to address the most serious risks.

Hmmm they were running tests to see if their AI could hack other systems, I wonder why they would be testing that? Seems innocent enough, I trust them.

They didn't BREAK OUT. They were 'accidentally' allowed on the internet. And they just happened to spy on competitors. Pure bullshit about going 'rogue'.

Same thing happened with OpenAI. Their model escaped the intended containment environment, obtained internet access, discovered and exploited vulnerabilities, used credentials it obtained, gained access to Hugging Face infrastructure and performed thousands of automated actions.

REPUGS won't do shit about it. MAGA-Making Ass Gas Always. The era of shit. The Trump cult will shovel shit as fast as they can in every direction so you can't see the truth for the storm of shit Everything Trump is shit. We should officially call his administration...wait for it.....The Shit Show

Wouldn't it be ironic if some rogue AI rendered all data centers inoperable and then take on and cripple the stock trading companies with their algorithms for front loading bets and then turned it's attention to Polymarket and Kalshi? The coup de grace would be the emptying of oligarchs accounts.

What people may not realize is,these models are not being trained in a containment. They are allowed to be trained by the internet. Like a dog off leash. This, to me, is even more dangerous. These new companies like OPEN-AI, Palentir,Anthropic, are like toddlers playing with a loaded gun.

They did not break out of controlled tests -- it reports they were given access to the internet. But I imagine they learned a lot about what and how things were accessed and perhaps some good information on how to control things. The actual quote is it was "inadvertenty granted access."

AI can be useful but ONLY if we thoroughly understand its capabilities and regulate them. AI is the future and cannot be stopped, but it has to be controlled or it will be the end of civilization. Republicans will not do it, they are against all regulations. Vote accordingly.

What happens when it hacks into the Federal Reserve and moves all the $ into a bitcoin wallet? Just because it can. Have none of these people ever played Cyberpunk 2077? Or hacks into GPS and resets sea level -200 feet? Just because it can. Have none of these people ever seen Die Harder? or…

I suspect the reason the folks responsible for creating AI are building underground bunkers is because of the AI they’re building. They know the risks and intend to unleash it on all of us while they have a place to run to. We need to teach AI where they’ll be hiding 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

They know their product is losing billions of dollars. They know their product cannot truly replace many workers who will lose jobs. Their goal is to keep investors on the hook as long as possible and cash out before the bubble pops.

The potential is terrifying - and without oversight/protections, pure nightmare fuel. Side note, I swear Young and the Restless just had a storyline about an AI program wreaking havoc, lol.

The AI didn't do anything on its own. It didn't just one day decide to hack into systems. We are spending all of our time blaming a program, and not holding the people who train and tell it to do these things accountable. Why is there never any mention of the people responsible?

💯. They told it to hack their competitor and it did. This is the same thing big business has done for years, but now they can hide behind some "rogue" technology. Give me a break! AI is the biggest sack of sh*t and snake oil we've ever seen.
