oh wow, I didn't know it looks so cool in action, kudos to the tui design! I wonder if you've ever considered building a polars plugin for that as well? We've been using it a bunch for the sequence data consumption for ML purposes, and I wonder if it's something you have on your roadmap.

Thanks! I had good fun for an afternoon making the TUI pretty :) We do have python bindings already, but with polars you'd probably want to have the bindings directly in the Rust backend right? You're thinking of a plugin that filters the rows (records) of a table? Does it support multithreading?

Currently we use needletail for IO, but I know that paraseq does have a bunch more backends. Not quite sure if it handles them completely transparently though. Either way the rust library API is quite minimalistic so easy to use and integrate in principle.

Interesting. I think what makes most sense that the API directly returns true/false whether a row matches with cost <=k. Or maybe it returns Option<Match> with the first or best match found. I don't think I have the experience and time to make such a plugin right now, but would be happy to help :)

I'm a bit worried this will still be IO bound or else bound by communication between polars and sassy. Can polars call sassy on a batch of rows at once? that would probably make things more efficient, especially for small (short read) records.
