Sorry but we'll never shy away from an excuse to highlight one of the rarest items in our archive: Check out some clips of Nintendo veteran Steve Okimoto introducing the GBA to Nintendo of America employees for the first time! This tape is dated 9/22/00, nearly 8 months prior to the GBA's US launch!

Happy birthday to the Game Boy Advance, which released in the USA on this day in 2001! Can you believe Nintendo's potent little handheld is a quarter-century old this year? We feel old.

They mention in the video about the battery indicator going red for low battery, then mention "plugging it into the wall to charge it up." So they already had plans for a rechargable battery unit for it before it was even released?

Here's the full clip about battery with a bit more context! Based on this, we're guessing Steve was referring to the idea of removing and charging a set of rechargeable AAs.

When I was a kid in the '80s we already had "rechargeable" batteries which were very primitive. They looked like regular AAs but they were put into a charging device & had a lifespan of roughly 50 charges before they died. They had problems w/leaking & swelling! I had them in my walkman as a kid.
