For my American friends. I was born in Polish People's Republic (currently known as Poland). A country where law enforcement and justice apparatus were tools of repression, loyalty to those in political power could earn you money and help avoid prosecution for own misdeeds, and corruption was rife.

The country was corrupted because of the Russian influence which started right after the end of WW2. It removed much of this influence after 1989, but the scars remain to today: lasting cultural damage, sharp political divide of the society, bureaucracy, distrust to the law enforcement and courts.
