A small Kansas town has agreed to pay $850,000 to a former reporter at its weekly newspaper to end her federal lawsuit over a police raid of the paper's offices in 2023 that ignited a national furor over press freedom. https://cnn.it/4wXrOIx

I mean, it ignited a furor for some. Oddly enough it didn’t really for the legacy news networks like CNN. Barely heard about an actual instance of government repression and fascist on here, but maybe you have like 15 more stories about Hasan Piker to shove down our throats.

The “people that did this” were the police, who are also paid with tax dollars. There is no version of this where the restitution money does not come from the residents of the area, regardless of the path it took to get there.

Settling for $850k is bullshit. The cops who did the raid, and the person who ordered it, should be forced out of law enforcement for the rest of their lives and THEY should be the ones paying.
