Assuming that he really was suffering from depression, may his path to recovery be swift and permanent.

Unless he tried got committed against his will, there's no reason he couldn't have publicly announced that he was stepping back before he disappeared. He didn't choose to be depressed, but he and his team chose not to tell anyone about it for months. That's a big issue.

I made lots of jokes about the missing Congressman yesterday and don't regret them. More seriously, depression kills, and when it doesn't, it erodes the things that make life worthwhile. Anyone can be vulnerable to it. Good for Kean for getting help and best wishes for his recovery.

Not surprised. So sad that there is still such a stigma with this diagnosis that we feel we have to keep it a secret. While I disagree with his politics, I wish him well going forward.

Because losing his job will make his depression worse. Why should he suffer when he can get back to work taking healthcare away from the rest of us?

So he gets full paid leave while the rest of us have to just suck it up and go to work. Sounds very Republican to me 🤬

Cool that he got paid for 4 months off to get the treatment that he needed. Wouldn’t it be great if that was true of his constituents as well?

There does seem to be an epidemic of this condition in recent years.

Have no use whatsoever for trumpublicans, but am glad for any person who gets a handle on depression.

I have a suggestion for treatment: Switch parties and stop letting his soul be devoured by Trump.

The thing is, if he really has mental health crisis that lasted this long (and this could totally be the case), he should have communicated better with his constituents about taking a 4 months sabbatical, leaving them without representation.

his is a reminder that mental health struggles are often invisible. Are enough protections in place for public officials?
