I'm about a month and a half. My tip. Get some pickles and some SUPER hot sauce. I mean eye watering hot. Combine and let sit a day. When I crave a cig I have a pickle. It has worked surprisingly well.

It's so hard. Friends told me I'd make the Guinness Book for most attempts to quit. But it finally took - 28 years ago. The first month was hell - thought of nothing else. But it gets easier. Three things that helped. 1) take quick walk when craving; 2) dump ash tray into jar, and ...

Could but likely won't. Pack a day addicts wouldn't see their 40th birthday. Thing is, nicotine causes or worsens other stuff and makes life miserable. Getting rid of GERD/acid reflux and a yearly bout of bronchitis makes quitting worthwhile.

The average life expectancy is 77 so if it starts at 60 they're losing a lot more than five years. I'm not defending it though, a little known fact is that so many people die every year from smoking that during the pandemic, more people died each year from smoking than Covid.

Reports like this promote cigarette sales better than advertising. I wonder if all smokers on this thread know they're just feeding the beast along with the cancer?

Nothing this is news. We've been saying smoking shortens your life, even by telling them by how many minutes for each butt for decades and who doesn't know quitting will make you healthier? During the pandemic we still had more smokers dying than people with Covid.

I am turning 30 in a country that just elected a fascist trifecta into government, climate change is getting worse, and im in school to be a history teacher while looking down the barrel of the Dept of Education getting destroyed. I'll keep smoking my fucking cigarettes.

My favorite 3rd Rock From the Sun is when John Lithgow discovers smoking. Jane Curtain says, “Smoking takes ten years off of your life.” Lithgow responds, “Yeah but that’s at the end of your life and those years suck anyway.”
