I mean, we also *get* a lot out of it. I choose to wear an apple watch over a casio because it does more of what I want for me. It's complicated.

I agree. The apple watch may have been an active choice, but did you choose everything that comes as a byproduct? It's easy for us to become passive consumers, or simply stuck with ongoing maintenance, ie managing alerts, notifications,. firmware upgrades.. The tradeoffs are not always worth it.
