still here. still trucking. starting the day at 92k. 3.5 chapters into this storyline. the beginning has the heaviest rewriting, so it’s still pretty slow going. the primary effort every day is hunting for the fun—not just so that i can get the words in without feeling like i’m slogging…

there are often times when i think, “oh, this scene is pretty much the same, i didn’t change a lot, maybe i should harder at it” and that’s probably true, but! then i also pull back and see how much of the entire creature that is the book itself has changed. not just the tightening and cutting but

the clarity and the weight of certain moments; the time spent in certain places, the timing of events, introductions of characters! all of that, which ripples through the rest of the book, even the scenes that…didn’t change much. we love to see it. anyway, back in for another day.

Sometimes it's just a time or some small words in a conversation that changes a character or following scenes. It's fascinating and I was sometimes wondering the same. Had my first novel published as well and well... I also was struggling with working on scenes again and again 😅
