gsc uses bytes for pokemon species indices which go up to 255 (zero based). w celebi at 251 there are a few unused slots that bank doesn’t block so they get turned into treecko, grovyle etc when sent up. stops at torchic :)

That’s kinda what I was thinking but I didn’t once think that Bank would even recognize it as a Treecko. Very surprised that’s possible at all

I thought Torchic wasn’t possible because of the properties of GSC’s glitch mon at 255? I thought it got read by the game as the cancel button and can’t be deposited.

I could be wrong! I saw some codes written for getting it using ACE so my assumption was that it’s possible

I messed around with it on a clone of one of my saves. I grabbed it with the bug catching competition ACE, then bricked the file with party size. I remember game will recognizing that the party is full, but I remember not being able to deposit 255 into the PC because of how it is read as the cancel/

/button. If you were to put it into the box by having a full party when 255 is caught/gifted, assuming it gets sent to box 1, you would still have to stabilize it either before being sent to the box or while it is in the box. You're making me want to try this... idk if I can create ACE codes tho
