HRC resolution was much more than a symbolic statement. It helped: 1⃣ Establishing a shared global standard for States, courts & communities can use and build on 2⃣ Better protecting communities across jurisdictions 3⃣ Streghting accountability 4 Creating a ripple effect 👇

✊ For communities & environmental defenders, the resolution strengthened the tools & legitimacy to demand information, participation, justice & remedies. ⚖️ For litigators, it provides a growing legal basis for accountability for climate change, pollution & environmental harm.

👀 But there is still a major gap 👀 @coe.int remains the only regional human rights system that has not explicitly recognized the right to a #HealthyEnvironmentForAll in a dedicated binding instrument. @healthyenvcoe.bsky.social

Europe should now close this gap by starting to negotiate a treaty that could: ⭕ Strengthen states’ obligations to prevent environmental harm, ⭕ Protect people & the planet ⭕ Regulate private actors whose activities cause environmental damage.
