There's a whole lot of conversation still to be had about proving identity, but just want to call out that this option is available right now (and super cool to see!) The only way Dylan could get a nytimes-dot-com handle like this is if nytimes set it up!

Update: I'm now @dylanfreedman.nytimes.com!

She is mad there’s no blue tick to indicate you are a cut above the average pleb poster, the lack of a class system pisses off people who thought BlueSky would status match like an airline frequent flyer program.

eh no one is being nice and polite in this discussion I’m being told I’m clueless for saying blue ticks were a status indicator on pre-Elon twitter, which is gaslighting level. But Katelyn isn’t even denying she wants an indicator that’s not domain verification, restricted to only journalists etc.

So I don’t think I’m being unfair. People are coming up with elaborate reasons for why the domain verification system isn’t enough and none of them pass a basic smell test. Some of them are people I like reading like Molly White.

I’m not commenting on her credibility as a source of information, I just don’t think BlueSky mods should be adjudicating that. I have a particular problem with it because half the people who can claim media affiliation in Australia are cranks and BlueSky is in no place to navigate it on the fringes
