Longtime Woody actor Tom Hanks has said Toy Story 5 has "one of the most heartbreaking scenes" the Pixar movie franchise has seen in its 30-year history. https://bit.ly/4u0S4jb

worse than them all being slowly fed into an incinerator??

I don't think I've cried harder in a movie theater than at that scene, and I was in my 20s by that point.

And I want to stress to people who haven't seen Toy Story 3: this is not a shit post. This was an actual part of the movie.

Like... What the fuck were they thinking.

I used to work in solid waste management , and I still tell people that this is the most accurate depiction of a solid waste incinerator ever put on film. They absolutely did their research on this and it has everything! Including the end where Lots-O Huggin Bear is tied on front of a trash truck

I legitimately love knowing that, even though it's really fucking horrific lol

If I had to speculate, I would say it is set up as a waste-to-energy plant: thermal energy recovery with turbines and related apparatus that you don’t see. It would explain the white hot temperatures at the center of the maw of trash, along with the investment in magnets/sorters to capture metals
