Meanwhile, Australia still leaves in limbo many incoming students (holding PhD offers and funding!) for months on end, esp. from Iran. Waiting a year, two, with no updates — unnecessary and cruel. www.timeshighereducation.com/news/phd-vis... via John Ross (Times Higher Ed). @davidpocock.bsky.social

I have been waiting for a PhD student visa for more than seven months, and the lack of a timeline has caused me a lot of stress. If the visa will not grant, I will lose my scholarship and will no longer be able to continue research due to the low value of the Iranian currency.

If you're going to refuse their visa, don't make them to languish for years, missing out on other PhD opportunities, without communication. Not only are you missing out on talent Australia needs, you're delaying their Australian PhD supervisors' research and projects, too — the one you funded!
