I know this ship has long sailed, but am I the only one to find the use of "compute" as a noun so off-putting?

I don't think "computation" has quite the right meaning. I think of computation as the end result, whereas "compute" referrs to the computational resources that went into the computation. E.g. "we don't have enough computation to train the model" doesn't sound right.

Yes! I’m also fighting the use of “coding” instead of “programming”: it leaves out so much and feels to me like denigrating the programmer’s skills in program solving, design etc.

I think it's fine, personally, even kinda like it. What puts me off is the sheer amount of people who go around saying that it's the most important thing ever, and e.g. the single reason why deep learning works.

It is not just you. I have also noticed the kids (meaning, my actual kids) using nouns as verbs, and I both dislike this practice and find it super efficient.
