#PNW Option poll! I'm working on an Ursula K. Le Guin design, and wondering which large Cascadian land creature represents us and our forests the best: A) Grey Wolf B) Roosevelt Elk C) Black Bear D) who am I missing? Thank you, and please repost for reach? 🙏

Predators, especially wolves, bears, cougars, tend to be portrayed in the media as a threat to humans outdoors and to livestock (even intentionally to increase acceptance of their elimination), and yet humans are also predators—a case could be made for figuring out how to represent predators.

I'd vote for Roosevelt elk! Black bears and grey wolves are pretty rare, but elk can be seen all over Cascadia. Plus, there's an elk on the Oregon state crest and a statue of the animal in PDX!

Elk! I grew up wandering around 160 acres of family homestead forest land on the Nehalem river and the elk were ever present. Majestic. Not to be messed with. To be respected even as you hunt them. A symbol of life in the woods and a sign of home.
