Supporting re-releases matters, even if you can in theory "play on emulator" or however you find a way to experience a particular game through an alternative. Sure downloading for free won't hurt the big corporations but it will hurt any chances of future official re-releases from ever happening.

Not everyone has the tech literacy of acquiring software from "in the know" sources and running them. There are a lot of people (mainly casuals) who would rather spend money to experience something via an official release. Don't want to pay for it though? Then continue playing in the seven seas.

Your way of playing is not better than another person's way of playing. At the end of the day you're still experiencing that same game. There's no need to shame people for playing a certain way, use that energy to have fun with the game regardless of how you decide to play it.
