Am I Building the Torment Nexus? I built a tool that lets HappyView operators browse the contents of atproto spaces, and the moment I saw it working I got a pit in my stomach. Here's what the community had to say about whether it should exist, and what it needs to look like if it does.

This is the world most users of software live in: data in someone else’s database - and it’s also why a bunch of people have been very vocal about wanting private data to mean encrypted at rest. I want that too, and @automerge.org & KeyHive are likelier candidates to produce that.

Are there other best practice technical approaches? How do we help support digital literacy in working with builders & hosts? How do we support hosts in forming co-ops and other formal entities that have more oversight & support? This is all hard!

It is! As I said in the article, I'm working on making HappyView a more securely managed system, but I think there's even more I can do in the future. One of the things I've been thinking about is how the plugin system in v3 could help. Could there be a plugin to enable E2EE on spaces? Possibly.
