Working dogs have had herding instincts for thousands of years. They will try to herd anything they see so you must train them what NOT to herd including human children.

Our backdoor neighbor had a shelty (who was slightly oversized for his breed). Their family had 3 kids, we had 5 in mine. That dog always wanted to herd us together if we tried to play tag or other running games. He had to be tied up out of sight and sound of us to relax and let us play.

Yet, my dog had not a clue when we did a test. Neither did I. I thought he was doing great because he had the goats in a circle. Turns out moving them is the big deal.
