I must be in the minority that thinks MCP is a bunch of overblown hype for sending JSON over RPC.

Encoding data source specific prompts behind a standard interface seems useful.

I don't disagree, but the capability seems disproportionate to the excitement

It's not much more than that, but it is signal in the noise – a way for more people to send JSON over RPC in the same way.
