When this was recorded Michael McDonald was frantically driving around in his convertible to get from studio to studio just to sing a few lines, collect a few dollars, and then off to the next one. I think I saw a Canadian documentary about it.

100% correct. This tune is made even more impactful when you learn that it's not a love song. In fact, he wrote it for his gravely ill father who was ready to give up instead of fighting for his survival. It will change the way you hear it.

I dare anyone, of any age, to not want to get up and dance when they hear “Junkanoo Holiday” from the Keep the Fire album. Go on, find it, play it and make your day happy for a few minutes! Have loved this man’s music since my high school days. ❤️

The lyrics …..perfect for today. 🎶….are you gonna wait for a sign, your miracle? -stand up and fight-make no mistake where you are-your back’s to the corner-don’t be a fool anymore…… 🎵 🎶. Saw Loggins and Messina at the Santa Barbara Bowl in 70s. Unforgettable.

And not a single mention of cocaine, the miracle drug that ran the music business in the 80s. Between that documentary and the one about Steely Dan, there was a huge rewrite of what those times were really like. I saw Loggins and Messina in LA in 1974, saw Kenny Loggins in Tahoe ~1985. Loved both.

I saw him just about the peak in the mid 80's. While "Footloose" and "Danger Zone" were fun it was all his "classic" songs then including "This Is It" that really allowed him to shine as a great vocalist and musician. It was nice when he returned to that earlier form, out of the 80's Hollywood phase

the track was recorded at Wally Heider Recording Studios in Hollywood (Studio C) and Michael McDonald was in the lobby with the piano, working on the song with Kenny, while Little Feat was across the street in Studio 3, finishing Down on the Farm right before Lowell George died
