picked some cute microwasps out of a sample at work today. mostly eupelmids, plus a eulophid, an encyrtid, and one of those things that used to be a pteromalid but got split off into their own family in the 2022 Hell's Heart paper, cleomyid now I think

Pretty sure I've seen some sort of miniscule wasp species in my room for whatever reason. I think they come in through my AC despite the bug mesh I put on it and they like my LED nightstand lamp for some reason. Gnat sized and very rounded like these, and all black. Hard-bodied, not soft like flies.

that could be a million different things but offhand sounds like samurai wasps, especially if you got a lot of stinkbugs in the neighborhood

Oh I'm sure it's impossible to ID without real good close photos (I do have entomologist friends and know their woes with folks sending bad descriptions and blurry pics) but I'll need to see if I can get a good macro shot next time I see one. They don't specialize in these guys so I never tried.

They are tricky, I think Notanisus is pretty similar too. I was trying to do a paper on them but got hung up by not being able to get specimens from other museums. We have at least two species here.

Callocleonymus was correct, and in fact I have three of them. doesn't seem likely I can get them to species but as far as I can tell these are state records for Oregon

I'll see if I can suss it out in the big blue book tomorrow. got a few other weird post-pteromalids saved up that I really want to figure out

Pretty and interesting, but this also looks like a nightmarish illustration of what it feels like to be at a party.
