It's shameful that we were even considering renewing him. The people at the top of the club were not blind to this situation, and still considered it in the interests of sporting expedience. Lessons should be learned.

I always found it shameful how Arsenal stuck by him throughout this. They aren’t alone. Other clubs have and would do similar. It’s a stain on football. Someone will still sign him.

I am actually quite ashamed of our club. Allegation were made for ever ago… it’s not new, all supporters knew about it. Club needs to take a good hard look in the mirror about what we stand for. And they need to support those women as much as they can.

It’s not a football club’s job to act as shadow law enforcement, and they’re not equipped/qualified to do that. If police and prosecutors can substantiate a claim enough to lodge a charge, then that’s when it’s time for them, and consequently the club, to act.

In some ways, yes. The delays have surely been painful for all the victims, and exacerbated the other surrounding issues. In other ways, I hope it was done to be sure they had the best chance of conviction. So many cases don't proceed, or lose, so I hope this time makes it a bulletproof case.

Not just the people at the top of Arsenal, I have heard rumours for at least a year. And I'm not saying everyone should believe every rumour about every player but these have seemed substantial for a while.

I'm sorry but we all knew and weren't tut-tutting when he was picked to play or scored a goal. There's probably a sliding scale on what warrants suspension by the club if a player is under investigation by the police and this, in my opinion, should've been a suspension from the start.

I agree about the contract extension. But we don’t have all the details there. Maybe the offer was so low it was never a viable alternative for they player. Just saying. But I can understand why he wasn’t suspended until there was a definite court judgement.

That’s still making a decision in that direction though. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy the see him gone. I don’t want to see my club linked to that sort of behaviour but trying to play the devil’s advocate a bit, I wonder what legal implications that could have had on the club, suspending him,if any

I understand that sentiment but its not really realistic is it? Could get any accusation and suspension at any time. The club were in a bind. But they 100000% should have taken the easy out and not offered a renewal. Thats a disgrace.

I suppose I’m looking to be schooled here…but why has everyone decided that he’s guilty? Did I miss something? What happens if he’s cleared of everything? Will everyone come back here and eat humble pie. I don’t know what else the club could’ve done 🤷‍♂️

Not everyone, plenty believe that you are innocent until proven guilty. I suspect nobody on here has seen any of evidence from either side, but are happy to run a kangaroo court via social media. I seem to recall Ronaldo and Benzema were accused of similar offences. I will wait for the verdict.

Not everyone…but some big Arsenal accounts eg Arseblog seem to have somehow arrived at a guilty verdict. Yes good point….all that Benzema stuff was never followed through. I believe arsenal have acted impeccably.

We aren’t the courts and don’t need to apply that same standard in coming to our opinion as individuals because we aren’t handing out custodial sentences. OJ was “innocent” in a judicial sense, but most people still wouldn’t want a family member dating him.

Well yes, but, until he was charged, he remains innocent. There is no reason to not play him or renew his contract. What if Saka is (falsely) accused by 7 women of rape? Do you Ausie’s Saka till it’s resolved. No you didn’t not because you don’t know if the accusations are factual u til charged.

I know that it was largely beyond the control of anyone in media to discuss, but, other than a full throated condemnation of his actions (and the club for what can only be viewed as protecting him), can we please cease any discourse about his departure being good/bad from a footballing perspective?

As a club we usually do the right thing but the way we handled this stinks. Being aware of the investigation for so long and allowing him to continue playing, then trying to extend his contact, sets an awful message

I hope questions are asked in pre season about this. But I just don't know what good it will do. The club have lost a lot of trust now. If this was another club we would think so much less of them, think of Chelsea for instance. Arsenal will now be seen as the same level as them.

They both dealt with them differently to this situation. Neither covered themselves in glory in my opinion but the names of both players was in the public domain and once it was the clubs swiftly took action. However, while Parteys name wasn't "publicly" out, we all knew. Since day 1

He was charged to court doesn't mean he was guilty of the rape offense, we are already giving him judgement. As a club are we not supposed to stand with player until found guilty or are they evidence somewhere were he was guilty of the crime

So you are telling me every football player/celebrities who more than one persons has accused of rape is guilty. Clap for yourself, you are hilarious. Respect to rape victims, been charged to court doesn't mean you are guilty no matter the number of accusers

Even if he isn't guilty of rape, which personally I think is unlikely, the fact is that he has brought his employers reputation into the gutter, arsenal should have tore up his contract, or paid him off to get him away so we send a clear message of our values

This is so weird from a US perspective. In the US If the club had evidence then it would be obligated to act… If they didn’t and moved to terminate his contract based on their “feeling” or “Snapchat text images from the internet” the club would immediately be sued by the player. Genuinely confused

Under the legal system, he is innocent until proven guilty. Being charged with something doesn't prove his guilt. Would think there were legal regulations against speaking about the matter regarding possible predice. However doesn't look good for any club under these circumstances

If the club had moral courage they could have dropped him. It would then have been up to him to publicly complain/sue. Guilty or innocent he was bringing the club disrepute. I’ve backed Arteta in pretty much every decision but not this one. His desire to extend makes a mockery of non negotiables.

Do you or the club know CONCLUSIVELY that Partey is guilty? Has he been trialled and found to be guilty? No. So don't jump to conclusions. Condemn as much as you like if guilty but be responsible & quiet until a verdict is made.

For what? I mean, if I had been arrested for something of that nature, my employer would not let me anywhere near my office. I don't know why AFC should be different. The protection of the people who work there is the greater need.

Absolutely embarrassing for the club, whoever knew about this should be ashamed. Do we know why he can be publicly named now and not before?

And the timing makes me queasy. Years of inaction, and then a couple days after he's not under contract this happens? Not saying the club was protecting him, but it's certainly reasonable to wonder if they were.

I think the timing is just coincidence. It’s almost 3 years to the day of the original arrest, and I doubt Arsenal has any ability to influence the Met if we can’t even get PGMOL to stop being biased.

I think it’s more they never suspended him. When Greenwood was arrested he was suspended the same day. Arsenal protected & if Partey was asking for more money because he was like I could be arrested again & Arsenal were like shut up & take what we are offering no one is going to protect you like us

I think some sections of the fanbase have tried to show opposition - I've signed open letters to the club and shared articles about it etc - but it's very hard for fans to achieve anything while a) Partey hadn't been named or charged, b) we still wanted to support the other players on the pitch.

One can almost excuse the fact that the club continued to play him (he wasn't charged etc etc) but the renewal talks were a farce and there should be no excuses for that.

He's just been charged today. I don't know how usually these go but who told you the club knew he was going to be charged all these years back? I think they were made aware recently hence the contract offer withdrawal.

Personally, I don't think it's a coincidence that he's been charged almost immediately after his contract ended. Probably a lot of damage control on the club's part behind the scenes..

It's true that timing is curious but they offered him a new contract before they withdrew it. So if they were just waiting for the contract to end to charge him, why offer him a new one. This offer should not have been made in the first place, a lot of baggage around him.

And that the manager continued to embrace+champion him, and not only play him but start him. Absolutely despicable+ I hope he’s seriously held to account for the wilful blindness he exhibited. He’ll answer no comment or deflect when asked but that doesn’t mean the q should ever stop being asked.

The thing that makes me really furious about this situation is that we profess a "one club" philosophy with the men's team and women's team seen as equal parts of one whole then we make the woman share a gym and training ground with this "alleged" scumbag.

I know I will get criticised for this, but I dislike trial by media. He has been charged, not convicted. If he is guilty, the book should be thrown. However, this has not come to court, and social media can affect the impacialty of jurors. Can be used as a defence in high profile cases.

My point is I agree with what you're saying, but the fact that conviction rates for rape are so infinitesimal that it suggests a wider structural problem in the judicial system around rape cases, and realistically all society as a whole.

Nobody’s suggesting he isn’t innocent until proven guilty in law. But the CPS consider there to be sufficient evidence to charge him with rape and sexual assault. Three different women have complained about him. Any reasonable person would be rightly concerned by this. He should have been suspended.

We as fans or Arsenal as a club don’t have the power to put Partey in prison. The standards are different when it comes to our opinion and his reputation. OJ wasn’t convicted but you still wouldn’t have wanted a family member dating him.

No, we aren't. We are generally entitled to the assumption of innocence until proven guilty. People are denied bail, or told not to approach witnesses or schools, and that's well before conviction. Innocence and Guilt are related but separate to Conviction.

Nobody has the right to play, either. Plenty of players have been stood down, not picked, sidelined or however you want to phrase it, and for things that would not be considered as serious as "under investigation for rape". It's not a punishment, just the same as denial of bail is not.

Absolutely. Suspects are not allowed to be named directly or indirectly until after they have been charged - it’s the law. The club were put in a really difficult position by the lengthy process. That said Arsenal really need to make a statement now

The club has to look after the interests of all its stakeholders and its own reputation as well as the position of one employee. Any statement needs to address a lot of things because they could, presumably have sold, at a loss if player agreed and had terms met. Did they consider and choose not ?

No company in the world would allow an employee charged with these kind of offences to continue working as if nothing has happened, regardless of the final outcome of the trial. Suspended with pay, and then an agreed early termination of the contract (or sold for a nominal fee) - not that hard.

We all were aware of it. All of us. And nobody protested when he was playing. Nobody. Andrew I love you: but late indignation is too late. Did we ignore him in our players ratings? In our team selection? In our match reports? So the shame is on everybody if shame has to be shared.

Is there a possibility the contract was had not been renewed because the charge was become imminent? He was under investigation for three years. I understand that in your view, the club should have dropped him when the investigation started, right?

1) This is true. 2) The point about the club learning is still a valid one. The lack of a common approach by the Premier League and FA is astonishing. Others have been suspended prior to a charge. It shouldn't be left up to clubs to make it up as they go along. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-6750...

We’ve been a disgrace from day 1 of this situation. We deserve all of the fallout and a lot of his colleagues, his bosses and a lot of us fans need to take a long hard look at themselves. Disgusting behaviour from top to bottom - one of our most shameful days as a club.

Genuine question, when do you think Arsenal knew he would be charged (e.g. that there was actually a case to answer)? I can't imagine the player or his agent have been saying 'yeah he did it and we're just hoping the CPS are too shit to do anything'...

Weak weak leadership! These owners are the worst of the worst. When it comes to transfers they put in all kinds of checks and balances, but for things that really matters i.e the values of the club they are happy to be bystanders. Tim Lewis and Richard Garlick should get the sack on the spot.

While I have no wish to defend Partey, the CPS decided on, and authorised charges after the Met provided the evidence after 3 years investigation. Innocent until proven guilty absolutely applies here, including his employment. What were the club supposed to do? Who says they were considering renewal

It’s horrible what he is being accused of, but we have to trust the legal system. You have to treat them as innocent until proven by a court of law otherwise what is the point of a law trial? As soon as/if he’s convicted it’s open season.

Club 100% culpable and the most at fault, but the ridiculous UK libel laws are a farce. It was already well known, but if something like this happened in the US, the public pressure would’ve forced the team’s hand much sooner.

I appreciate that the club probably couldn't suspend him without being charged (although they certainly didn't need to play him), but I agree re resigning. Someone at the Exec level should have stepped in and vetoed. Commercial prosperity must never take precedence over basic morality.
