Who was your first anime crush? I had to think hard about this, and I would have to say that it’s Susan Sommers of Venus Wars.

Other crushes came later in life: Kaori of City Hunter, and Irene Sanders of Desert Rose via @kaiserbeamz.bsky.social’s review of the OVA. I’m sure I’ll fall for more!

I almost forgot about Rally and Becky (Best Girl – she stands on business!) from Gunsmith Cats, Grandis Granva from Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, and Natsumi of You're Under Arrest! (even though it's pretty much ACAB over here)

I really had to dig deep for this, as I had been watching anime since I was in single digits, but none with characters that would be, y’know…crush-worthy.

So, in my head, I went back to watching anime with friends and renting tapes from the “Japanimation” section at The Video Superstore on Pembina. A-ko? No. The ladies of Plastic Little? Hell no…that’s a problematic age gap thing. 😬
