I was laid off a few years ago (not games) and after the lawyer fees, I walked away with double the early signing fee they promised on top of my severance.

Due to all the layoffs recently: If you are asked to sign a severance agreement, please check it with a lawyer. Yes, even the ones that look good already. This can cost money, but sometimes the severance can include the lawyer payment. Just ask! For example, in Europe, ask @aceottorney.bsky.social
