According to various conservative leaning polls, it hasn’t hurt his standing with veterans. Maybe be b/c they have no idea, since rw media doesn’t report much of these kind of things to them. Plus they are so conditioned that when they happen to hear it from elsewhere, they don’t believe it.

It is a tough call for volunteers who have been and will be asked to fill the shoes of terminated employees. Having been a vet/volunteer I'm very aware of the mutual respect that has existed to date. Each volunteer thus approached will make their own decision but the final outcome can't be good.

it's not just those Vets and needed services 80K people w/ families, health costs, mortgages, and loans all cut lose without notice imagine the impact these people will need from the public safety net that is also being withdrawn what will increase? abuse, homelessness, loan defaults, and more

now imagine the businesses that counted on the spending those 80K would have generated groceries, clothing stores, auto repairs shops, and a plethora of others. as people get poorer they pull back and spend on only necessities. they delay major appliance purchases. the don't renovate homes. etc

how many of those 80K people had children in daycare? well all those kids no longer need that and the daycare centers just lost all those customers. in turn they lay off workers who also will need a safety net so now daycare workers are out of a job and on and on and on

I passed the Isaacson Veterans Affairs Center in Atlanta this weekend. I remembered the original slap in veterans' faces to name it after Sen. Isaacson because he beat Sen. Max Cleland (a wounded combat veteran) claiming Max was Taliban friendly. Doug Collins effectively dismantling it is on brand.

This was my grandpa’s duffel from WWII. He lived a thousand lives in between serving in both World Wars. He was an American hero and a cop, prize fighter, engineer, ran for office, Dem delegate, author, painter and lifetime student. I can’t believe how this country has let him down, let us all down.

I think Trump and Musk are tanking the market on purpose. As a dictator and as an oligarch, sinking the globe into abject poverty suits them. Having scrapped USAID, they (like Putin and Kim Jong Un) are now dependent on hard power. One cannot destroy a country and then become a despised citizen.
